INTRODUCTION

(History)

Let us take a look at the origin of the movie under discussion. Crazy Rich Asians is based on a novel with the same name by a man of Singapore and American descent, Kevin Kwan. Using the biographical criticism of literary criticism, it is evident the novel was based on the author’s childhood (reference to his biography on Wikipedia)

What was acted in 2018 “Crazy Rich Asians” is seemingly representative of the Novel. I can not give a tell much about the play because my analysis is based on a plot summary I read online from (Wikipedia ) For clearer insight and contextual evidence, you can refer to the novel or a summary of the novel from any source.
The movie was finally released in 2018.

Genre: Comedy and romance
Cast: Constance Wu – Rachael Chu
Henry Golding – Nick Young
Michelle Yeoh- Eleanor Young

Summary

Okay to the summary. So, this movie tells the story of Rachael chu an American professor who on her boyfriend’s request makes a trip to Singapore for his friend’s wedding where he was to be the best man. Un-best known to her is the fact that her boyfriend (Nick) is part of an extremely rich family. You know: the kind of richness where should we live in a monarch world, he would be termed as a prince.

With someone like that, Rachael would have to go through a lot of problems to be accepted by the family.

Now to my rating
Rating:

I rate this movie 4 and half out of 5
Don’t get me wrong, the movie is a good movie, but it missed something I was much waiting for.

WARNING
If you don’t like spoilers, I suggest you watch first before reading the rest because it will be full of it. Let’s dive in then.

Okay so, Eleanor, who was so much against the relationship between her son and Rachael, to the extent of doing a background search on Rachael could only give a ring to show she had accepted the relationship.
The ring is something she cherished. I know but, I mean, with the way they stressed on her disapproval, a little stress on the approval would have made it great. I must admit it seemed as though she accepted the relationship not from her heart.
You know Rachael’s words from the game they both played must have hit her for her to talk to her son and accept Rachael.

Scenes I liked

Like feels like an understatement here. I loved Rachael reaction at the beach. She burring the fish with blood stain on her bed was great. I definitely would have made a scene like Astrid suggested. She knew in her heart she was no bitch and did not have to react. But you tell me what your reaction will be like;

You go with people you do not know well to a deserted place. After you find a dead fish alongside it’s blood on your bed and you decide to burry it. Would that be all?
Anyway, it was great she didn’t react in anger, controlling that can be hard but she did a great Job.

Another scene I liked was the beginning.

Rachael: So, your family is rich?
Nick: We are comfortable
Rachael: That is what a super-rich person would say.”

Haha, beginning to know the real person you are dating Rachael. A lesson I picked, do not judge a book by its cover a applies here. I liked it for the comic aspect and the realization dawning on Rachael.

The last killed me. (I’m alive though)
Look at what transpired for yourself
Astrid: stop talking
Husband: what?
: Don’t worry about packing your things, you bought this apartment, you keep it. We’re leaving
What do you mean you’re leaving?
Astrid: I have fourteen apartments that I own so one of it.
That’s was it. A brief history between them. The husband cheated thinking he was right. Why? Because Astrid was hiding her jewelleries from him so he would not feel bad. She did all this because he was from a poor background compared to hers.
The likes end here. The movie is great and there are more like to it than this. I suggest you go watch if you haven’t yet.
One might say its overhyped due to the storyline but personally I loved it and recommend it. Crazy Rich Asians is a must watch if you are in romance and comedy (rocom)
